PASIFIC proposal submitted

We submitted a proposal to the PASIFIC program, Call 2. The candidate, dr. Narjes Shahamat, would like to join our group to study collapsing massive stars and their jets formation through GR MHD simulations. Good luck!

Paper about polarisation appeared in MNRAS

After quite long reviewing process, our paper about polarimetric images of the near horizon region of the black hole, has been published in MNRAS.

Authors Monika Mościbrodzka, Agnieszka Janiuk, and Mariafelicia de Laurentis, discuss there for the first time the linear and circular polarimetric images of the magnetically dominated flows to investigate observational signatures of strong magnetic fields near the event horizon of a non-rotating black hole. In particular, we study the polarity inversions which are unique to near horizon emission.

IPAM Workshop

On October 4-8, the IPAM Workshop was held at the University of California, Los Angeles. IPAM is the Instiute of Pure and Applied Mathematics and it sponsors workshops on a broad range of scientific themes. The 2021 astrophysics workshop was devoted to Computational Challenges in Multi-Messenger Astrophysics. The program covered variety of topics of computational relativistic astrophysics and numerical relativity following the first detection of binary black holes and binary neutron stars.

Program overview, list of invited speakers, and video recordings of the lectures can be found on the website.

Agnieszka Janiuk presented there a talk entitled “Many faces of black hole accretion in gamma ray bursts”

40th anniversary of CTP PAS

On August 30th – September 3rd, the Center for Theoretical Physics, PAS, celebrated its 40(+!) anniversary. The center was established in 1980, and

the actual anniversary was postponed until this year, due to pandemic of 2020. This year, we organized a beautiful, live event to promote and celebrate our research activities and 40years development.

The website of the conference, and the book of abstracts, is under this link.
