New Frontiers in Black Hole Astrophysics

The 324 Symposium of the International Astronomical Union, entitled “New frontiers in Black Hole Astrophysics”, was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on Sep. 12-16, 2016. Agnieszka Janiuk presented there a talk on entitled “On the gamma-ray-burst-gravitational wave associacion in GW150914″, and Petra Sukova talked about “Transonic structure of slowly rotating accretion flows around black holes”.

Athena X-IFU paper

The overview article on The Athena X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) has been published in Proceedings of SPIE. 9905, Space Telescopes and Instrumentation 2016: Ultraviolet to Gamma Ray, 99052F. (August 17, 2016). The Authors list, with Didier Barret et al., includes 91 people (with Agnieszka Janiuk from CFT). The article presents a review of the core scientific objectives of Athena, driving the main performance parameters of the X-IFU, namely the spectral resolution, the field of view, the effective area, the count rate capabilities, and the instrumental background. The X-IFU will be provided by an international consortium led by France, The Netherlands and Italy, with further ESA member state contributions from Belgium, Finland, Germany, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and two international partners from the United States and Japan.
